French officials have consented to start intercepting migrant vessels in the English Channel, after an extended period of insistence from the UK.

This policy shift comes after the Prime Minister sent a letter to the French leader asking him to back the plan and saying there currently "lack any effective preventive measure" in the maritime passage.

French maritime police will be allowed to intercept the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their passengers, according to official statements.

French authorities have infrequently acted to stop the overcrowded boats departing from the shoreline because it is considered excessively high a risk to both personnel and individuals.

"It is essential that we deploy these tactics this month... We have no effective prevention in the Channel."

Currently, a French naval police representative states personnel will begin intervening at sea, with the aim of safeguarding lives.

Significantly, the spokesperson ruled out the use of entanglement devices to intercept boats, which had earlier been suggested as a potential method to disable the propellers of the vessels.

The decision to intervene at all is a major advancement, coming after a brief shift towards a more aggressive strategy this warmer season, which ceased when the previous government official departed from government.

This was demonstrated in the summer month, in the run-up to a meeting between the UK leader and President, when authorities were observed wading into the sea to slash the sides of a boat.

Currently French officials will again be allowed to intercept boats prior to they collect migrant passengers from the beaches of France's north coast, although it's uncertain how the vessels will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are currently postponing the commencement of intervention operations and the people-smuggling networks will be looking for methods to adapt to avoid interception, as they have done so often in the previous instances.

UK immigration authorities and the Prime Minister's office have been approached for response.
