Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Title in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt
A comeback the Russian player won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.
Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.
It is his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after March of the previous year.
The win also signifies he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle previously this season.
Medvedev's defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an better serving game.
He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.
The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to force a third set.
Moutet saved four early opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, he earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
